CBP closes temporary processing facilities along southwest border

  1. Original Date Announced

    March 13, 2025

CBP announced that it has begun to reduce the number of soft-sided facilities (SSFs) along the southwest border as a result of the “unprecedented drop in apprehensions of illegal aliens.” CBP plans to close SSFs in Donna, North Eagle Pass, and Laredo, TX, as well as in Yuma and Tucson, AZ. SSFs in San Diego, CA, and El Paso, TX, currently remain open. As a result of facilities being closed, CBP has also reduced the number of contracted medical service providers and caregivers for detainees' children.

CBP agents and resources previously assigned to the SSFs will "return to their primary enforcement duties along the border."
