March 13, 2025CBP announced that it has begun to reduce the number of soft-sided facilities (SSFs) along the southwest border as a result of the “unprecedented drop in apprehensions of illegal aliens.” CBP plans to close SSFs in Donna, North Eagle Pass, and Laredo, TX, as well as in Yuma and Tucson, AZ. SSFs in San Diego, CA, and El Paso, TX, currently remain open. As a result of facilities being closed, CBP has also reduced the number of contracted medical service providers and caregivers for detainees' children.
CBP agents and resources previously assigned to the SSFs will "return to their primary enforcement duties along the border."

2025.03.20 Reported: CBP shutters Otay Mesa processing facility - Fox News
Fox News reports that CBP has shut down a temporary migrant-processing facility in Otay Mesa, CA. The facility, which opened in January 2023, had the capacity to hold approximately 500 individuals. Its closure was due to the recent "unprecedented drop in apprehensions" alone the southern border.
