DHS proposes changes to DHS Form 7001, "Request for Case Assistance"

  1. Original Date Announced

    March 14, 2025

DHS submitted an information collection request to OMB allowing for a 60-day notice and request for comment period regarding proposed revisions to DHS Form 7001, "Request for Case Assistance." Form 7001 is form used by the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman (CIS Ombudsman) to allow individuals and employers (or their legal representatives) to notify the Ombudsman that they are experiencing problems seeking immigration benefits through USCIS. Form 7001 permits the CIS Ombudsman to obtain information needed to understand and resolve the issue that the individual or employer has encountered, either by completing research using USCIS systems, or by relaying the issue to USCIS.

Proposed changes to 7001 include increasing the form's usability by reordering the questions, improving the instructions sheet, and deleting certain sections that "customers did not historically answer correctly." Additionally, the form has been changed to "limit each request to one immigration issue." Changes will also improve the form's usability in digital form, as offered on the DHS website.

Comments will be accepted until May 13, 2025.
