  1. Original Date Announced

    September 3, 2025

DHS issued a notice and request for comments on proposed changes to Form I-17 (“Petition for Approval of School for Attendance by Nonimmigrant Student”) and Form I-20 (“Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1 and M-1) Student Status”).

Form I-17 is used to collect information on Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-certified schools. Form I-20 is used to collect information on F and M nonimmigrant students that SEVP-certified schools admit.

DHS is proposing revisions to Form I-17 to require schools to provide additional information, including but not limited to details about the mode and format of instruction in their educational programming and the numbers of domestic and international students in a program. DHS is also proposing revisions to Form I-20, including but not limited to, collecting contact and other information on the legal guardian of minor students, date of graduation, source and type of financial support for the student, and information regarding the student's education and employment.

Comments will be accepted for 60-days until November 3, 2025.
