DHS revamps ICE tip line

  1. Original Date Announced

    June 2, 2025

DHS announced that it is revamping the ICE tip line in response to a terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, allegedly committed by an immigrant who unlawfully remained in the U.S. after overstaying his visa. The 24-hour hotline allows the public and law enforcement to report suspected criminal activity by undocumented individuals, including terrorism, gang involvement, and sex trafficking. DHS Secretary Noem is allocating additional resources and personnel to improve the tip line’s efficiency and responsiveness. The initiative aims to enhance public safety by enabling the faster identification and removal of undocumented immigrants involved in criminal activity.

2025.12.17 DHS Agency Information Collection Activities - Emergency Revision of Suspicious or Criminal Activity Tip Reporting

ICE issued a notice and request for comments on proposed changes to the information collection "Suspicious/Criminal Activity Tip Reporting," ICE's online tip line form. The changes amend the drop-down menu available for users who are law enforcement officials to add new fields. ICE states that “with more [law enforcement officers] providing information, ICE realized it needed more precise information to be able to process the tips received.” The new fields seek information including the subject’s country of birth or citizenship, alien registration number, immigration status and history, and criminal history.

The notice also outlines the process by which Intelligence Research Specialists at the Homeland Security Investigations Tipline unit "conduct queries in DHS, law enforcement, and immigration databases," and refer leads to DHS offices "to conduct investigations and other enforcement actions in support of DHS goals and objectives."

Comments are due on February 17, 2026.
