September 8, 2025DHS Secretary Kristi Noem terminated the 2021 designation of Venezuela for TPS, which expires on September 10, 2025. The Secretary determined that “Venezuela no longer continues to meet the conditions for the 2021 designation” and that “it is contrary to the national interest to permit Venezuelan nationals . . . to remain temporarily in the United States.” The termination is effective November 7, 2025; after November 7, nationals of Venezuela who have been granted TPS under Venezuela’s 2021 designation will no longer have TPS.

2025.10.04 New York Times - Who Still Has Temporary Protected Status?
The New York Times explains the Trump administration’s attack on TPS, reporting on which countries still have TPS, the effects and status of recent litigation, and the impact on TPS holders. It states that the administration has taken steps to eliminate the program for eight nations; as of the date of the article, seven countries have had their status terminated while court cases continue, and one remains protected as a result of successful litigation. Nine other countries have not had their designation targeted.
