Original Date Announced
January 14, 2026DHS terminates Somalia's designation for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which was set to expire on March 17, 2026. DHS Secretary Noem determined that improved conditions in Somalia and "continued national security and public safety risks combined with the fraud and foreign policy considerations" establish that Somalia no longer meets the statutory basis for TPS.
The termination is effective March 17, 2026. DHS will automatically extend the validity of certain EADs previously issued under the TPS designation of Somalia through March 17, 2026.
