DOJ "Sanctuary Jurisdiction Directives" § II targets current--and blocks future--DOJ funding agreements with NGOs that support removable immigrants

  1. Original Date Announced

    February 5, 2025

Section II of AG Bondi's "Sanctuary Jurisdiction Directives" memorandum directs the Department of Justice (DOJ) to immediately identify "all contracts, grants, or other agreements with organizations that support or provide services to removable or illegal aliens." DOJ officials are then instructed to (1) pause further distribution of funds for 60 days (after complying with notice and procedural requirements); (2) require funding recipients to report whether funds are used to, among other things, assist "removable or illegal aliens;" and then (3) compile an overall report to be submitted to the Associate Attorney General within 45 days from the memorandum's effective date. After this process is completed, the Associate Attorney General will decide which agreements should be terminated or resumed, consistent with applicable statutes, regulations, and terms.

The memo also commands that DOJ not enter into any new contract, grant, or other agreement to provide Federal funding to non-governmental organizations that support removable aliens, either directly or indirectly.
