May 30, 2025DOS issued a notice and request for comments on proposed revisions to Form DS-234, Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) Biodata Form. Form DS-234 elicits information used to determine the eligibility of certain Iraqi and Afghan SIV recipients for refugee resettlement benefits. Notable proposed changes include:
- Replacing "gender" with "sex" in accordance with Executive Order 14168
- Adding a question for married applicants stating: "If married, is your Spouse your first cousin?"
- Replacing the text in Question 23 asking about "immediate family members being processed on their own special immigrant visas" with "family members with active U.S. immigration and/or refugee cases with whom you wish to be resettled," and adding language stating: "There is no guarantee that requests to resettle with family members on other cases can be honored and could result in delays in processing."
Comments are due July 29, 2025.
