October 7, 2025The Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) announced that Daren K. Margolin has been selected as its new Director. Margolin served as a military lawyer in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring after a career that included roles as military judge, prosecutor, and defense counsel. From 2017 to 2020, he was an Assistant Chief Counsel in the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor for ICE. Most recently, from 2020 to 2024, he served as an Assistant Chief Immigration Judge with EOIR.

The New York Times reports that Daren K. Margolin, who was chosen as the new director of the EOIR, previously was relieved from a command position at Marine Base Quantico in 2013 after negligently firing a gun into the floor of his office.
