EOIR authorizes use of settlement officers in OCAHO cases

    The EOIR Director issues Policy Memo 20-16, describing a voluntary process whereby parties can use settlement officers in cases before the Office of the Chief Administrative Hearing Officer (OCAHO) as a means of alternative dispute resolution. The memorandum describes the role of a settlement officer, when cases may be referred to settlement officers, how cases are referred, the settlement conference process; confidentiality requirements, and how settlement negotiations conclude.
