    November 3, 2025

ABC News reports that ICE denied faith leaders access to give Communion to immigrants at the Broadview detention facility in Cook County, Illinois. The Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership (CSPL), a Catholic and Christian nonprofit, said that it formally submitted a letter requesting access more than a week in advance. This is the second denial of entry, following a first attempt on October 11, 2025. Faith leaders said they were allowed to pray both outside and inside Broadview in the past.

2025.11.19 Complaint - Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership v. Noem

A coalition of Chicago faith leaders filed a lawsuit alleging that ICE is denying them access to the Broadview detention facility after decades of being allowed to pray both outside and inside and to administer Holy Communion to detainees. The suit alleges that ICE's policy of barring religious leaders' access violates both Plaintiffs' and detainees' religious freedoms under the Constitution's Free Exercise Clause, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), and the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA). Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership v. Noem, No. 1:25-cv-14168 (N.D. Ill.).
