President Trump issues memo proposing to tighten asylum rules

    President Trump issued a memorandum which directs the Attorney General and DHS Secretary to 1) develop policies to settle asylum applications within 180 days of filing; 2) require a fee for asylum applications and work permit applications; and 3) bar migrants who have entered or attempted to enter the US illegally from receiving work authorization before any relief or protection is granted. The memo gives the DOJ and DHS 90 days to develop the proposals. [ID #77]
