January 6, 2026The New York Times reports that Antigua and Barbuda has agreed to start receiving foreign nationals who seek asylum in the United States. Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda wrote on Facebook that his country had signed a “nonbinding” memorandum of understanding with the United States to accept no more than 10 “non-criminal refugees” per year at Antigua and Barbuda's discretion.
The agreement comes after Presidential Proclamation 10998 announced a partial ban on entry for citizens of Antigua and Barbuda, among other countries, effective January 1, 2026.
