February 28, 2025Bloomberg reports that CBP is holding migrant families with children at a tent facility in Otay Mesa, CA, for longer than agency guidelines permit. "Some families have been held for 10 days or more at [the] soft-sided facility," despite CBP guidelines stating "that people should not be held in such spaces longer than 72 hours" and noting "special care should be taken for families and unaccompanied children."
Immigration advocates warn that "CBP facilities are effectively being used as family detention in spite of the fact that they are intended to be used as short-term processing facilities."

2025.04.01 Reported: CBP detains families at ports of entry along the New York-Canada border for as long as two weeks - Investigative Post
Investigative Post reports Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is detaining people, including families with young children, at official ports of entry along the New York-Canada border for as long as two weeks at a time. Multiple instances of this practice at Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, and Peace Bridge have been confirmed by the Investigative Post and local advocates.
Previously, detention by CBP at the bridges lasted a maximum of 48 hours, before detainees were released or transferred to ICE custody. CBP officials have refused to acknowledge or confirm the change in practice, citing “agency policy” and “privacy laws.” Advocates say the lack of information from CBP has "made it difficult for family members and attorneys to locate and contact those being held."
