2025.05.15 Reported: DHS Requests 20,000 National Guard Members to Help With Immigration Crackdown - New York Times
The New York Times reports that the Department of Homeland Security has requested more than 20,000 National Guard troops to help with "interior immigration enforcement." It is unclear what role they would play and whether states would need to approve the plan. The request is currently under review by the Department of Defense. If approved, it would be the first time that National Guard troops directly enforce immigration laws.

2025.05.23 Reported: Trump administration planning to send hundreds of border agents to support ICE arrests in U.S. interior - CBS
CBS News reports that the Trump administration plans to send approximately 500 CBP personnel to assist ICE field offices across the country with interior immigration-enforcement efforts, expanding CBP's focus beyond borders. These CBP personnel would include members of Air and Marine Operations, a specialized law enforcement unit, and the agency's Office of Field Operations, which oversees legal entry points into the United States.

2025.06.06 Reported: DHS wants National Guard to search for and transport unaccompanied migrant children - NBC
NBC News reports that about 10,000 of the National Guard troops requested by DHS in May 2025 would be used for transporting detained individuals; about 2,500 troops would be used for detention support; about 1,000 troops would be assigned to administrative support, such as processing detainees; and about 3,500 troops would be used to “Attempt to Locate - Fugitives” and to conduct “surveillance and canvassing missions” as well as “night operations and rural interdictions.” DHS’s request also includes a call for troops to search for unaccompanied children “in remote or hostile terrain” and transport them between states.
