February 1, 2025According to Reuters, President Trump's border czar Tom Homan announced ICE is working to lower its detention standards and defer to each state's own standards to increase the use of state jails for immigration detention. Homan spoke at the annual meeting of the National Sheriffs' Association in Washington, D.C., encouraging sheriffs to provide jail space.
Section 10 of EO 14159, "Protecting the American People Against Invasion," called for DHS to take all appropriate action to establish contract to use detention facilities.

2025.03.05 - Nashville Banner: ICE Enforcement Up Almost 400 Percent in Davidson County During First Month of Trump Administration
The Nashville Banner reports that immigration enforcement activity at Nashville jails has surged. According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, "ICE agents picked up nearly four times as many people from Nashville jails as they did in the same month last year under the Biden administration." ICE has started filing detainer requests for essentially every offense.
Reportedly, a newly pregnant single mother was arrested and spent a week in jail after the police responded to a domestic dispute. However, there has been no public rescission of ICE's 2021 directive 11032.4, "Identification and Monitoring of Pregnant, Postpartum, or Nursing Individuals."
