    ICE has resumed its contract with the Glades County Detention Center in Florida, a facility previously deemed substandard, despite ongoing allegations of abuse and medical neglect. The facility will provide up to 500 additional beds for detention.

    Former individuals detained at the Glades County Detention Center describe being pepper-sprayed, denied essential medication, and exposed to hazardous conditions like carbon monoxide leaks. ICE claims the facility now meets standards but has not provided evidence of improvements. Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that, as part of reopening the facility, DHS improved food service and commissary access, and installed tablets to allow detainees to file grievances and make video calls to lawyers and family.
