Original Date Announced
November 22, 2025According to records obtained by Politico, President Trump denied disaster aid to Chicago on October 22, 2025, following two major storms during the summer. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker's aid requests were denied two weeks after the president claimed that Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson “should be in jail” for “failing to protect” federal immigration-enforcement officers. The denial letters to Pritzker say disaster aid “is not warranted” and provide no further explanation. Politico reports that these denials are the first time any president since at least 2007 has refused to help residents recover from such extensive damage.
