July 5, 2018According to the Associated Press, some immigrant U.S. Army reservists and recruits who enlisted in the military under the MAVNI program which offered eligibility for citizenship are being abruptly discharged. At least 40 individuals are reported to have been improperly discharged. Service in the military provides eligibility for citizenship. [ID #626]

A memo shared with the Associated Press dated July 20 orders high-ranking Army officials to stop processing discharges of men and women who enlisted in the special immigrant program, effective immediately.
