State Department initiates deportation of lawful permanent residents with alleged ties to Haitian terrorist group

    The State Department announced that it is initiating deportation actions against green-card holders who the U.S. government has found to have supported Viv Ansanm, a Haitian group designated as a foreign terrorist organization. The announcement states that DHS intends to initiate removal proceedings under section 237(a)(4)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), the same provision used against student activists earlier this year.

    2025.07.21 ICE - ICE arrests Haitian engaged in violence and destabilization of Haiti, in support of Department of State

    ICE announced that it arrested and detained a lawful permanent resident in Miami, Florida for "contributing to the destabilization of Haiti." ICE further stated that it intends to initiate removal proceedings against him under INA § 237(a)(4)(C) based on his alleged ties to Viv Ansanm.

    2025.09.25 DOS - Determination of a Haitian National as Jeopardizing U.S. Foreign Policy Objectives Regarding Haiti and the Safety of the United States

    Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced in a press release that "[t]he Department of State has determined that a Haitian national who engaged in a campaign of violence and gang support should no longer remain in the United States," and that "the Department of Homeland Security will initiate removal charges against this individual" under INA § 237(a)(4)(C).
