  1. Original Date Announced

    July 11, 2025

The New York Times reports that Alina Habba, New Jersey’s top federal prosecutor, is pursuing an investigation into comments New Jersey Governor Philip D. Murphy made in February about housing a woman whose immigration status was unclear at his family’s home. Though an aide of Governor Murphy clarified that the woman never lived at his home and was in the United States legally, FBI agents have sought interviews with at least four witnesses about the comments. This investigation is separate from the Justice Department’s inquiry related to New Jersey’s sanctuary policy, which is also led by Ms. Habba.
