USCIS proposes to collect biographic and employment information on immigration forms

    USCIS issued a notice and request for comments on the proposed collection of certain biographic and employment identifiers on certain immigration forms. USCIS states that the collection is necessary under section 2 of EO 14161 to establish enhanced screening and vetting standards to assess eligibility for immigration-related benefits, validate an applicant's identity, and help determine whether such grant of a benefit poses a security or public-safety threat.

    USCIS seeks to collect the following six data elements: (1) the beneficiary/applicant/petitioner's Social Security number; (2) family members' Social Security number; (3) business/employer name; (4) business/employer physical address; (5) business/employer mailing address; and (6) business federal employer identification number.

    The following USCIS forms will be impacted by this policy:

    • Form N-400, Application for Naturalization
    • Form I-131, Application for Travel Document
    • Form I-192, Application for Advance Permission to Enter as a Nonimmigrant
    • Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status
    • Form I-589, Application for Asylum and for Withholding of Removal
    • Form I-590, Registration for Classification as Refugee
    • Form I-730, Refugee/Asylee Relative Petition
    • Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence
    • Form I-829, Petition by Entrepreneur to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status

    Comments are due on July 28, 2025.
