USCIS transitions to electronic fee payments and will phase out check and money order payments

    USCIS announced that individuals can now pay USCIS fees through electronic Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions. Beginning on October 28, 2025, USCIS will phase out paper check and money order fee payments and will only accept ACH, debit, or credit card payments.

    2025.10.28 USCIS - USCIS to Mandate Electronic Payments for Applications

    USCIS issued an announcement stating that benefit requestors and third-party payors may be exempt from the electronic payment requirement in "limited instances." Under Form G-1651, "Exemption for Paper Fee Payment," exemptions may apply if an individual lacks access to banking or electronic payment systems, electronic payment would cause undue hardship, non-electronic payments are necessary for national security or law enforcement, or in other circumstances identified by the Secretary of the Treasury.
