June 26, 2017USCIS publishes new Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. The new form eliminates the need to file a Form G-325A, includes a list of 27 immigrant categories which allows applicants to identify the specific immigrant category under which they are applying, and updates admissibility-related questions. The form triples in length from six to eighteen pages. New questions include, among others, whether the applicant has ever been denied a visa or admission to U.S., ever violated the terms of a nonimmigrant visa, ever entered without inspection, etc. Other questions have been reworded or expanded. This Biden administration action proposes revisions to Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. The new form will retain the changes made in the initial Trump administration action while making primarily non-substantive changes to other sections in the new version of the form.
Comments will be accepted for 60 days until November 7, 2023.

May 17, 20242024.05.17 - Notice for Information Collection: Application to Register or Adjust Status
DHS and USCIS submitted an information collection request allowing for an additional 30-day public comment period for the notice originally published in the Federal Register on September 8, 2023 regarding proposed revisions to Form I-485. Eight comments were received in connection with the original September notice, which initially allowed for a 60-day public comment period.
Comments are encouraged and will be accepted until June 17, 2024.
