CBP expands its enforcement jurisdiction to comply with EO 14165

    Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the establishment of four customs-enforcement areas, expanding its enforcement jurisdiction from 12 to 24 nautical miles off the coast of South Florida, Southern California, Puerto Rico, and the Gulf Coast of Texas. In a press release, Rodney Scott, CBP's Commissioner, explained that the expansion is intended to target smuggling and contraband, stating: "If you are moving drugs, contraband, or people toward our shores, expect us to find you.” The expansion is intended to bring CBP's enforcement practices into compliance with Executive Order 14165, Securing Our Borders, consistent withExecutive Order 14411, Strengthening Customs Enforcement.
