President Trump allows Deferred Enforced Departure for Liberians to expire

  1. Original Date Announced

    September 24, 2024

President Trump allowed Liberia's Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) protection to expire, ending a longstanding form of temporary protection that had allowed eligible Liberians to remain in the United States without facing removal and, through associated employment authorization, to work legally. President Trump previously moved to terminate Liberian DED toward the end of his first term, but President Biden reinstated DED and extended it until June 30, 2026.
