DOS proposes changes to Form DS-260, Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application

    The State Department announced in the Federal Register that it is proposing changes to Form DS-260, the Electronic Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration. The agency will discontinue the paper version of the form (DS-230) effective November 1, 2025, and has opened a 60-day comment period. The updated DS-260 limits applicants' ability to provide explanatory information and cannot be amended after submission.

    DOS issued a notice regarding proposed revisions to Form DS-260, noting that the agency is adopting some of the revisions provided during the 60-day public comment period, as well as to notify the public of an additional 30-day period available for public comment regarding the revisions proposed.

    Public comments will be accepted until December 19, 2025.
