DOS proposes revisions to J-1 visa waiver recommendation application

  1. Original Date Announced

    October 7, 2020

The DOS is proposing changes to Form DS-3035, J-1 Visa Waiver Recommendation Application and is providing 30 days for public comment. Form DS-3035 is used to assess the eligibility of a J-1 visa holder for a waiver of the two-year foreign residence requirement, and to issue a recommendation of whether the Department of Homeland Security should grant a waiver of that requirement. The form has been adjusted for annual reporting and recordkeeping to note the number of applicants for the previous fiscal years. There are minor changes over the previous version of the form. The A# and I-94# fields have been removed from the form because DOS states that they are "no longer necessary for the purposes of reviewing waiver requests." The information collection request has also been adjusted for annual burden cost to note that there is no cost, other than the application fee and postage stamp, to the respondents for filing the DS-3035.
