July 6, 2020ICE's Chicago Field Office invites community members to participate in the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Citizens' Academy beginning September 15, 2020. Participants will engage in "scenario-based training," including "defensive tactics, firearms familiarization, and targeted arrests." The program "will serve as a pilot for nationwide implementation."

On October 1, 2024, Plaintiffs Immigrant Defense Project (IDP) and Organized Communities Against Deportations (OCAD) and their legal counsel (Beyond Legal Aid, the Center for Constitutional Rights and Latino Justice PRLDEF) released a briefing guide to documents uncovered as a result of the FOIA litigation Organized Communities Against Deportations v. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. These documents concern internal workings of the Citizens' Academy initiative.
