June 7, 2026Reuters reports that Central African Republic has agreed to accept people deported by the United States. The deal between the two countries was discussed during a May 18 meeting in Bangui led by Christian Jové Ehrhardt, the State Demartment's deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration. Two officials involved in the agreement confirmed with Reuters that a deal has been reached.
Central African Republic joins other African countries accepting third-country deportees such as Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea.
