Reported: ICE Arrests Foreign Citizens with Visa Overstays at Airports

  1. Original Date Announced

    July 28, 2026

The New York Times reports that ICE has expanded airport arrests beyond people with removal orders to include those with expired visas, many of whom have active green-card or work-permit applications and/or active work permits. This builds on a TSA-ICE information-sharing arrangement that began in May 2025, originally meant to flag travelers with removal orders. Enforcement actions under the expanded effort have occurred in at least 15 airports.
