Reported: DOS Plans to Reduce Embassies in Africa that Process Visas to 20

    The Associated Press (AP) reports State Department plans to cut U.S. embassies processing visas in Africa from almost 50 to 20. There is not a set date for the change, but it is expected to occur in June 2026. Applicants from countries without a visa-processing embassy will have to travel abroad for visa processing.

    The remaining visa-processing embassies will likely be located in "Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Accra, Ghana; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Cape Town, South Africa; Dakar, Senegal; Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania; Djibouti, Djibouti; Johannesburg, South Africa; Kampala, Uganda; Kigali, Rwanda; Kinshasa, Congo; Lagos, Nigeria; Lome, Togo; Luanda, Angola; Malabo, Equatorial Guinea; Monrovia, Liberia; Nairobi, Kenya; Port Louis, Mauritius; Praia, Cape Verde; and Yaounde, Cameroon." Embassies in the remaining countries will be "limited in the services they can offer."
