Blitzer writes that the division is "tasked with finding cases where officials can rescind certain people's legal permanent residency status."

May 14, 20262026.05.12 Reported: Green Card Holders Targeted for Deportation by New ‘Removal Apparatus’ - The New York Times
The New York Times reports that a unit in the Tactical Operations Division is revetting thousands of green card holders. Nearly 2,900 cases had been reviewed or were still being assessed by early May. At least 50 green card holders were targeted for removal and more than 500 were still under investigation, though about 80% of cases were deemed as requiring "no further action." Officials say the effort targets fraud and criminal activity, while critics argue the program is overly aggressive, resource-intensive, and expands immigration enforcement beyond undocumented immigrants to immigrants with legal status.
