    April 19, 2026

New Yorker reporter Jonathan Blitzer shared in a series of X posts that he reviewed an internal United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) document revealing that the agency formed a "Tactical Operations Division" that includes teams called "Denaturalization," "Refugee Re-Vetting," "LPR Operations," and "Fraud Detection & National Security." Blitzer writes that the division is "tasked with finding cases where officials can rescind certain people's legal permanent residency status."

2026.05.12 Reported: Green Card Holders Targeted for Deportation by New ‘Removal Apparatus’ - The New York Times

The New York Times reports that a unit in the Tactical Operations Division is revetting thousands of green card holders. Nearly 2,900 cases had been reviewed or were still being assessed by early May. At least 50 green card holders were targeted for removal and more than 500 were still under investigation, though about 80% of cases were deemed as requiring "no further action." Officials say the effort targets fraud and criminal activity, while critics argue the program is overly aggressive, resource-intensive, and expands immigration enforcement beyond undocumented immigrants to immigrants with legal status.
