Original Date Announced
June 9, 2026The State Department published a temporary final rule (TFR) to establish a pilot program running from July 1 through December 31, 2026, that allows tourist and business visa (B-1/B-2) applicants to pay an optional and additional $750 fee to get an expedited interview appointment within ten business days. This program is only available on a limited basis at select overseas embassies and consulates and is designed as a proof-of-concept to gauge demand for a fee-based expedite service ahead of upcoming global events like the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The premium fee is designed to cover the additional costs of managing a separate, fast-tracked queue. While paying the fee lessens the wait time for an interview, the rule notes that it does not lower visa requirements, skip security background checks, or guarantee visa approval.
