August 24, 2026Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) said in an interview with The Texas Tribune that Texas is set to receive $7.5 billion from a federal fund intended to reimburse states for border costs incurred during the Biden administration. The $7.5 billion, which Cornyn negotiated with DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin, accounts for three-quarters of the $10 billion in grant funding that was given to the DHS' fund in July 2025's H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).
