DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and Colombian Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia signed a Statement of Intent for Biometric Cooperation that outlines plans for the U.S. to assist Colombia in deploying biometric technologies to enhance the identification and tracking of cross-border migration. The initiative, which according to Secretary Noem has already led to over 1,700 deportations and 1,000 arrests, specifically targets individuals classified as threats before they can enter the U.S. The biometric data-sharing is promoted as allowing the U.S. and Colombia to better manage migration, enhance border security and disrupt transnational crime.
