The agreement states that “the Parties intend to ensure the dignified, safe, and timely transfer of nationals of Central American countries to Guatemala.”

October 10, 20252025.10.10 Reported: Guatemala accepts third-country deportations outside scope of ACA - Third Country Deportation Watch
The Third Country Deportation Watch reports that Guatemala has been accepting deportations of third-country nationals outside the scope of the ACA described above since October 10, 2025. Guatemala has reportedly received at least 2,000 Hondurans, Salvadorans, Mexicans, and Nicaraguans outside the ACA. Those sent outside of the ACA are processed in Guatemala and returned to their countries of origin. Regular transfers of Mexican nationals to Guatemala began in spring 2026.

CBS News reports that the Trump administration has been deporting Mexican nationals to Guatemala and Honduras rather than returning them to Mexico, despite the Mexican government’s willingness to accept all of its own citizens. According to DHS officials, the unannounced flights are intended to deter repeat crossings by stranding deportees in Central America. Mexico’s Foreign Ministry condemned the practice, stating it rejects the removal of Mexican nationals to third countries.
