United States and Guatemala sign Asylum Cooperative Agreement

    DHS published an agreement between the United States and Guatemala relating to the transfer of nationals of Central American countries to Guatemala, effected by exchange of diplomatic notes on June 11 and June 13, 2025. The agreement states that “the Parties intend to ensure the dignified, safe, and timely transfer of nationals of Central American countries to Guatemala.”

    2025.10.10 Reported: Guatemala accepts third-country deportations outside scope of ACA - Third Country Deportation Watch

    The Third Country Deportation Watch reports that Guatemala has been accepting deportations of third-country nationals outside the scope of the ACA described above since October 10, 2025. Guatemala has reportedly received at least 2,000 Hondurans, Salvadorans, Mexicans, and Nicaraguans outside the ACA. Those sent outside of the ACA are processed in Guatemala and returned to their countries of origin. Regular transfers of Mexican nationals to Guatemala began in spring 2026.
