USCIS proposes to collect new information on certain forms to enhance screening and vetting of applicants

    USCIS issued a 60-day notice and request for comments on a proposed new collection of information, "Generic Clearance for the Collection of Certain Information on Immigration Forms," implementing enhanced screening and vetting standards and procedures pursuant to section 2 of the EO “Protecting the United States from Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats." USCIS proposes to collect 24 new data elements, including information about an applicant's family members (parents, spouse, siblings, and children), including their names, telephone numbers, dates of birth and residence(s). The new data elements will be used with 9 current USCIS applications, including naturalization, asylum, registration for permanent residence and adjustment of status, travel documents, refugee/asylee relative petitions.

    Specifically, the following USCIS forms will be impacted by this policy:

    • Form N–400, Application for Naturalization
    • Form I–131, Application for Travel Document
    • Form I–192, Application for Advance Permission to Enter as a Nonimmigrant
    • Form I–485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust status
    • Form I–589, Application for Asylum and for Withholding of Removal
    • Form I–590, Registration for Classification as Refugee
    • Form I–730, Refugee/Asylee Relative Petition
    • Form I–751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence
    • Form I–829, Petition by Entrepreneur to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status
