El País reports that DHS and CBP, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, have issued a new policy targeting foreign social- media influencers, vloggers, and digital-content creators. In a joint statement to El País, DHS and CBP stated that "[c]oming to the United States with the sole purpose of creating content (as an influencer), thereby generating earnings from the United States while in the country, is considered work and requires an appropriate visa." As a result, "[p]eople who enter the United States under a visitor program and receive income from a U.S. source would be violating the conditions of their admission status.” A government source stated that immigration authorities plan to tighten inspections at airports and border crossings for influencers, with the goal of "protect[ing] American jobs."
